The Friday Five

1. If you could vacation anywhere in your home state for one week, where would you go? Why?

If I were at home in Texas, I think I would pack the truck with all the camping gear, and head out to the dessert with Michelle and the Pups. We had a lot of fun the last time we went. Maybe this time we’d rent a trailer and head all the way out to Big Bend National Park.

2. If you could vacation anywhere in the United States for two weeks, where would you go? Why?

I think Yellowstone National Park. This would be a nice time to go. End of spring but not too hot yet. The newborn animals are still cute but not so shy that you can’t get some good pictures. I just read in U.S. News and World Report that for $195 (gourmet meals included) you can take a three-to-five-day trek in Yellowstone Park with Yellowstone-Llamas. The llamas will gladly carry all your gear as you hike into the lush backcountry. What fun!

3. If you could vacation anywhere in the world for two weeks, where would you go? Why?

Let me first say that the “Cradle of Civilization” is a little overrated.

There are lots of places I’d love to see. I’m going to disregard Europe because Michelle and I still plan to take a long vacation there when I get out of the Army. So my answer is Australia. I think two weeks in Australia would be an amazing adventure. I’ve met quite a few Australians working on the Joint Coalition Staff and they’ve all been wonderful people who paint an amazing picture of their homeland. From the amazing architecture of the Opera House and Bridge in the Sydney Harbor to the Outback country and Great Barrier Reef there would be so much to see. Plus we could go see Steve Irwin the Crocodile Guy and all the amazing Australian animals at his zoo.

4. [PUT ON YOUR IMAGINATION HAT] If space travel to the Moon and Mars becomes commonplace in your lifetime would you visit either? Why?

I guess if it was commonplace I would go for the novelty of it. But I wouldn’t be one of the first to sign up. You could attribute that to the death of the pioneer spirit, but I think it’s just common sense. I definitely have no desire to live anywhere other than this blue and green cosmic marble we call home.

5. What are your plans for the weekend?

I hope you all have some great plans, because my plan is to sit here at work, read what your plans are, and daydream vicariously (this will be a recurring theme in my posts for the next year).

I would go to Lauren and dereks house for a week because there is nowhere else exciting in New Jersey
2. If you could vacation anywhere in the United States for two weeks, where would you go? Why?
I would go down to Michelle's house because I don't see her much and we could go to the big water park just an hour away!

3. If you could vacation anywhere in the world for two weeks, where would you go? Why?
I would go to Europe to see the battle fields of World War II and the battle field Where my Great Grampa Wiest From World War I Fought.

4. [PUT ON YOUR IMAGINATION HAT] If space travel to the Moon and Mars becomes commonplace in your lifetime would you visit either? Why?
I think I might go to Mars Or the moon To see what it is like there or see Neil Amstong's first foot prints on the moon. Then again I think it would be a waist of time and money.

5. What are your plans for the weekend?
My plans for the weekend is weeding and mulching for Mothers Day and having some fun.

In New Jersey, I would probably pick Cape May. It is far enough away to be able to treat it like a true vacation. And, I have never been, so it would be new. Plus, I know some people in South Jersey and around Philadelphia that could probably come and visit.

2. If you could vacation anywhere in the United States for two weeks, where would you go? Why?
I could pick the obvious answer and say something like Hawaii, Florida, or California. But I'll pick North Carolina. I have a lot of friends down there and I can pick everything from visiting mountains to the beach depending on my mood. Plus, I picked a beach type location for vacationing in my home state, so I can have a little variety and not be called a beach bum.;)

3. If you could vacation anywhere in the world for two weeks, where would you go? Why?
I have to agree with my brother. I would probably pick Australia. Part of the appeal has already been mentioned by Dan. Part of the appeal is that it is literally the other side of the world. The final reason, and why Australia gets the nod over Europe, is that with this being my first trip out of the country as an adult, I would probably choose a more wheelchair friendly destination, which Australia is. Europe is doable, but Australia is easier, since most buildings are younger than 200 years old. Also, it would enable me to escape the winter blues of January. Maybe celebrating Christmas in a Hawaiian shirt is worth doing also.

4. If space travel to the Moon and Mars becomes commonplace in your lifetime, would you visit either? Why?
I am too much of a science-fiction and plain old science nut to say no. Although, I would not be the first and would even want a few people with disabilities to go ahead of me, so probably five years after it becomes commonplace.

5. What are your plans for the weekend?
I can honestly say I don't know. Freddy's parents are visiting from Mexico, so I am keeping my plans flexible. He has not seen them in three years, so he is excited. We did go out for dinner last night, eating outside which is something I really enjoy. Talk to you next week.

Hmmm...well Big Bend does sound fun, but I'd also like to check out the South Padre area (NOT during spring break). Beach vs. desert...tough call.

2. If you could vacation anywhere in the United States for two weeks, where would you go? Why?
Well, Yellowstone with the Llamas does sound interesting and I'd be more than happy to accompany Dan on such a trip, but I would also love to visit Hawaii. I have never been, but from what I have heard there is a little bit of everything there....hiking, beaches, maybe some surfing lessons, and tons of great food! Again, beach v. camping!! Oh, and I forgot about Alaska!!! Good thing Dan and I still have lots of time to get this travel bug out of our systems.

3. If you could vacation anywhere in the world for two weeks, where would you go? Why?
Great answer, Matt! This question is like asking me to pick my favorite candy bar! I want to explore ALL the continents!!!! It seems a shame to live on this beautiful planet and not see every corner of it! We'll start with our first trip to Europe next year (Italy here I come!!!!) but count me in for an African safari, exploring the pyramids, shopping in Hong Kong and scuba diving in the Great Barrier reef!!! Ok, I got carried away about the scuba diving...I'm not one for underwater adventures of ANY kind (except swimming with dolphins)! I don't even like snorkeling...partly due to the sealife and partly because of the darth vader breathing noises coming from the snorkel, but do count me in for a visit Down Under!!!

4. [PUT ON YOUR IMAGINATION HAT] If space travel to the Moon and Mars becomes commonplace in your lifetime would you visit either? Why?
HECK NO!!!!!! Unless you're going sedate me first!!!! Certain things make me very claustrophobic....it's not the small spaces, but more the restricted access to oxygen...see my answer above about scuba diving. I'm thinking space travel would fall into the same general category. I would only go if we were forced to colonize other planets for the survival of the species. In that case, I think I would find some way to deal with the claustrophobia.

5. What are your plans for the weekend?
Chores, hanging out with the Sargents, starting on my Disney album (a year later) and trying to decide which law school I should attend. I feel some list making coming on!!! I should be mowing the lawn, but I've recently decided to boycott this particular chore. So, I'm going to hire somebody to do it instead...sounds like Steve and Matt are doing a pretty good job up there in NJ...maybe my mom will lend them out to me!

That's a tough call for me. I think we would start in San Antonio and we'd make our way to Big Bend as well. The River Road is beautiful, and the seclusion is great. The puppies like it too!

2. If you could vacation anywhere in the United States for two weeks, where would you go? Why?
These are all tough for me. I would like to take a cross-country trip of the continental US for those 2 weeks. Is that answer allowed? I would also have to spend part of that time at DisneyWorld!!!

3. If you could vacation anywhere in the world for two weeks, where would you go? Why?
I would have to say Korea. I want to see more of the land my Mom came from. I was there once about 7 years ago for a month, but I didn't get to see as much as I would've liked.

4. If space travel to the Moon and Mars becomes commonplace in your lifetime, would you visit either? Why?
Yes, I would visit both at least once just out of curiosity.

5. What are your plans for the weekend?
I don't think I should have to answer that.

Even though I am not much for the beach, Jen and I took a weekend trip to Cape May last year for our anniversary. We had a great time! So why not make it a week. Lewis, I think you would like it as well.
2. If you could vacation anywhere in the United States for two weeks, where would you go? Why?

Alaska. We could load up the travel trailer for the big RV road trip. We would be able to see the wide open spaces and all the wildlife. Maybe take a guided fishing or hunting trip.
3. If you could vacation anywhere in the world for two weeks, where would you go? Why?

Having lived in Brussels for 6 1/2 years, I hesitate to say Europe. However, I think I would like to go back to see some sites I visited 25 years ago. Like Matt said, I too would like to revisit Normandy, Bastonge, Verdun maybe the Imperial War Museum in London. I guess you can tell I am interested in military history.

4. [PUT ON YOUR IMAGINATION HAT] If space travel to the Moon and Mars becomes commonplace in your lifetime would you visit either? Why?

Maybe the moon but I'll pass on Mars. Like Matt said it would be interesting to visit the historic spot Neil Armsrong once stood. It must be that history thing.

5. What are your plans for the weekend?

This weekend has come to an end, here is a recap. Sat. morning the boys and I did some much needed weeding and mulching around the house. the afternoon was steven's baseball game. Got back home about 6 and did some more yard work. Sun. morning church after that another one of Steven's baseball games. Lauren and Derek made it to the game as well. By the way Steven's teams won both games. We continue to pray for all of our men and women in the armed forces, but specifically we pray for you Dan, Mike and Margaret. Thank you for your service,
