Musical Questions this week.
1. Who is your favorite Artist/Band?
That’s an easy one for me. Bruce Springsteen and the E. Street Band. Whether he’s singing alone or with the band he’s the greatest. His live performances are the best; he always connects with the audience and seems to draw from an unlimited source of energy. He plays for everyone, not just the folks who paid for the front row seats; he’ll spend half his time playing to the folks in the cheap seats behind the stage. Plus, he writes his own songs, so he passes the artist test-he’s not just a performer. Also, he’s a Jersey boy who never left home.
2. What are some of your favorite songs?
Marc Cohn: True Companion-Our song
The Boss: Jersey Girl, Thunder Road, Born to Run, Glory Days, Blood Brothers, If I Should Fall Behind, Secret Garden, The River. There are many more.
George Strait: The Chair, Heartland, The Best Day
Toby Keith: American Soldier, I Love this Bar, Beer for my Horses, Should’ve Been a Cowboy
The Indigo Girls: Ghost, Least Complicated, Power of Two, Get Out the Map
3. What are your musical guilty pleasures?
Meatloaf-I can’t help it; I think he’s great.
ABBA-But don’t tell Michelle (Mama Mia, is a great musical if you can see it)
Grease Soundtrack-Who doesn’t sing along to the Grease Mega-Mix when they play it on the radio? I know you do it when no one’s watching!
4. How old are you? Not in years, but what was the format of the first album you bought on your own: Vinyl, 8-Track, Cassette, CD, or MP3 download? What was the Album?
My first album was the Footloose Soundtrack (add that to the guilty pleasure list) on cassette.
5. What are your plans for the weekend? What music will you listen to?
First, an update on the furniture issue from last week: The furniture company or the shipping company has agreed to send more furniture since the first set was in fact hijacked near Al Fallujah (They must have insurance for that kind of thing). Any way, this time they are going to pay, at their cost, to have it flown into Baghdad International Airport. Thoughts of the Berlin Airlift are hard to suppress.
This weekend I will be happy for my friends Mike and Margaret who celebrate their five-year wedding anniversary on the 29th. Since, they got married on graduation day at West Point, I will be not-so-happy to celebrate my five-year anniversary in the Army on the same day. Before the deployment to Iraq this was to be the day that I officially re-entered the civilian world after nine years in this man’s army.
The soundtrack for my weekend will be the 20 GB of music on my MP3 player set to random. Although at night when I’m going to sleep I set it to play random selections only from the country music genre.
1. Who is your favorite artist/band?
Again, like Dan, this one is easy. Has to be Dave Matthews. And surprisingly, the reasons are very similar to the ones mentioned by Dan. Whether with the band or solo, he is awesome live, improvising and playing with standards to make them new and different. Additionally, live his songs can last fifteen minutes or more. He also passes the artist test by writing his own songs. Finally, he is unique, providing a sound that is recognizable but not done anywhere else.
2. What are some of your favorite songs?
Dave Matthews/Dave Matthews Band: Big Eyed Fish, Bartender, Dodo, Space Between, Gray Street, Seek Up, and too many more to list here.
Springsteen: Atlantic City, Empty Sky, Mary's Place, and again too many more to list here.
Red Hot Chili Peppers: The Zephyr Song and Californication.
U2: With or Without You, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking for, Electrical Storm, Angel of Harlem, Desire, and Where the Streets Have No Name.
Bare Naked Ladies: Maybe Katie, Aluminum, and many more.
3. What are your musical guilty pleasures?
Jimmy Buffett -- I am a parrot head, but when I go to concerts, I dress less flamboyantly than probably what you are thinking of.
Alanis Morissette -- I've had two close encounters with her, which made me a fan.
4. How old am I?
My first musical purchase was a cassette, Michael Jackson, Thriller.
5. Plans for the weekend?
I am at my parents' again, so I really didn't plan anything. Talk to you next week
1. Who is your favorite artist/band?
Wow. That is a tough question since I really have mood swings about my music. Forced to choose, I would have to say the Indigo Girls. I've never had the pleasure to hear them in person, but they are phenomenal song writers, in my opinion. Plus, you can't find better songs to sing to in the car, which is the ultimate test for me!
2. What are some of your favorite songs?
I'll try not to repeat since so many good ones have been mentioned already. Lewis-U2 has been in my CD player for about 2 weeks now!
Indigo Girls--Land of Canaan, Nashville, All that we Let In, Loves Recovery, Love will Come to You,Romeo and Juliet (ask Dan about our duets), language or the kiss....I could go on and on!!!
John Cougar Mellancamp- Hurt so Good, Authority Song (my air drumming on this song has earned me quite a nickname...we'll see if Dan is brave enough to make fun of me in front of the whole world), Pink Houses
Tim McGraw- Where the Green Grass Grows, Just to see you Smile
Dixie Chicks- There's your Trouble, Cowboy Take Me Away
Jewel- Life Uncommon, Deep Water
I feel like I'm leaving out so many but I"ll give it a rest!
3. What are your musical guilty pleasures?
Dan- In this category you forgot to mention Chick Rockers...can you say Avril and Shakira????
For me...definitely SOUNDTRACKS!!!! It could be that I just love a good mix, but I love the soundtracks! From movies, TV shows, whatever! Sandy made me two driving mixes the last time Dan was deployed and I still listen to them all the time!
Also, I'm gonna have to fess up to Pink, the entire Whitney Houston Greatest Hits double album and Celine. Not to mention all my other girly music (Jewel, Norah Jones, Sarah McLachlan, Natalie Merchant, Enya...you get the picture). Lewis-I'm with ya on the Parrothead thing!
4. How old am I?
Definitely cassette, although I did have a record of Michelle my Belle when I was REALLY little. The first tape I bought was Debbie Gibson!!! I'm not gonna lie...I purchased the Greatest Hits CD about 6 months ago. For nostalgia sake only...I swear! Maybe that belongs in the guilty pleasures category.
5. Plans for the weekend?
I went with the Sargents to get Dan's truck fixed this morning (Lisa's Dad really hooked me up!) and then had a yummy yummy dinner with them tonight. Lisa made Agnes' famous pound cake, which was DELICIOUS as ever! Tommorrow Matt and I are tackling some of the remaining home improvement projects before I can put the house on the market. I love long weekends!!!! I have to work a bit, but it's still nice to have some extra time off!
1. Who is your favorite artist/band?
Really really tough for me to answer. I love music (and singing to it) but I don't find any interest in buying music. My favorites are usually songs that end up in the Top 40 by any given artist. I usually don't even know who sings/plays the song. I have types of music I don't really like (country and hard rap). I am officially going to say I don't have a FAVORITE artist/band.
2. What are some of your favorite songs?
Look at the top 40 chart this week. This week (or any given week) about 75% of the songs are my favorites.
3. What are your musical guilty pleasures?
Disney soundtracks
4. How old am I?
Cassette. Probably Debbie Gibson or Tiffany.
Michelle- I'm shaking my head at you.
5. Plans for the weekend?
We got back from Disney World on Sunday. So lots of laundry!
1. Who is your favorite artist/band?
I don't really think I have a most favorite artist or band. I love George Strait, so I guess that's as close as I'm gonna get to that answer.
2. What are some of your favorite songs?
For most of these artists, there are many many more favorite songs, so this is just a sampling:
George Strait - Easy Come, Easy Go, The Chair, The Fireman (one of Mike's most favorites)
Duran Duran - Hungry Like the Wolf
Billy Joel - Piano Man, Downeaster Alexa
Tim McGraw - Where the Green Grass Grows
John Michael Montgomery - Life's a Dance
Dolly Parton - 9 to 5 (YES!!!)
Eminem - Stan
Dr. Dre - The Chronic
Okay, that's enough for now. I could go on forever.
3. What are your musical guilty pleasures?
I LOVE 80'S MUSIC! I am a child of the 80's, and nothing is quite like the one hit wonders that came out of that decade. I still listen to New Kids on the Block, and no, I am not ashamed. To each his own! I also love The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, and the 82nd Airborne All American Chorus (don't ask, you won't understand).
4. How old am I?
VINYL - Come on, most of you know how old I am! The first record I ever bought was Candy Girl by New Edition on 45 RPM. The first record I think I ever owned was a Sesame Street album: Bert and Ernie Sing Along. :) I was recently able to purchase another copy on ebay. I love that album!!
5. Plans for the weekend?
As Dan said, on Friday Mike and I celebrated our 5th Wedding Anniversary, even though the actual date was Saturday (Friday is Mike's day off). We watched "50 First Dates" in his room. Interestingly enough, Adam Sandler's character is a veterinarian at a Sea World type place. I think it's a sign.
Hope everyone else's weekends were great!
1. Who is your favorite Artist/Band?
This is a tough question? I enjoy different styles of music(Jazz, country, rock), from different time periods. So I'll have to pass on a favorite.
2. What are some of your favorite songs?
Glen Miller: String of Pearls, Moonlight Seranade, Etc.
Oldies from the 60's
Eagles: Desperado, Take it to the limit,Take it easy
Allman Brothers:Jesica,Ramblin Man
The Marshall Tucker Band: Searchin for a Rainbow
The Charlie Daniels Band: New Pharisees, Tribulation, Payback Time
Steven Curtis Chapman: Dive,Declaration of Dependence,Fingerprints of God
Michael W. Smith: Breathe
Paul Overstreet: Seein' My Father In Me
3. What are your musical guilty pleasures?
Lewis and Michelle, I'm with you. I'm a Parrot Head too. Michelle who introduced you to that music anyway? :)
4. How old are you? Not in years, but what was the format of the first album you bought on your own: Vinyl, 8-Track, Cassette, CD, or MP3 download? What was the Album?
Vinyl. Meet the Beatles.
5. What are your plans for the weekend? What music will you listen to?
Saturday: Cut the lawn. What else is new. Sunday: Church, Matt & I marched in the Memorial Day parade in Blairstown with the Christian Service Brigade. Steven had a baseball game. We went to a barbecue in the evening.
Monday: Matt, Steven and I lowered the flag here on the farm in the morning. Steven played taps on the trumpet. In the afternoon we worked on setting the posts for the batting cage, in the rain. Then we raised the flag. As always, we continue to pray for all you who serve in the armed services. Thanks for your service.
Jim- If only I knew how cool I really was way back then at my first JB concert!!!! Or maybe I thought I was too cool???? Either way, that was certainly a fond memory!
